
The federal government has appointed Shabbar Zaidi as chairman of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Zaidi will be first chairman, who has been picked from private sector.
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday announced the appointment of Shabbar Zaidi at a talk with media persons.
Zaidi will be 26th chairman and he will assume the charge after removal of Mohammad Jehanzeb Khan.
Last week the government removed heads of State Bank of Pakistan and FBR after serious difficulties in the fiscal side.

Syed Shabbar Zaidi is currently Chairman of Federal Board of Revenue of Pakistan and former caretaker Provincial Minister of Sindh, Pakistan who served in 2013 caretaker ministry. He is also a senior partner in A. F. Ferguson & Co., a member firm of PwC. He is mainly known for his extensive contribution towards development of taxation and fiscal laws of the country. Among his non-profit work, he is a trustee of Sindh Institute of Urology & Transplantation (SIUT) and member of Boards of Governors of Liaquat National Hospital, Karachi. In the past, he has also been the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and Chairman of the South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA). Syed Shabbar Zaidi has also authored many books, including Panama Leaks – A Blessing in Disguise – Offshore Assets of Pakistani Citizens, A Journey for Clarity and Pakistan: Not a Failed State.
